Abstract

Many organizations around the world have found that it?s possible to reduce the number of incidents at work by giving safety the first priority. All organization managements are committed in their policies to the fact that all incidents are preventable. Therefore, Process Safety Management (PSM) standard includes the emergency preparedness element which required preventing or minimizing incidents. It is a useful tool to be applied in the organization to improve safety and prevent incidents. Each organization should implement emergency preparedness in all processes, all equipment and systems. The main advantages of the implementation are: 1. Minimizing the accidents and hazards in the area 2. List of identified hazards and their safeguards, available for the references of the concerned 3. New employees will have a reference report that will help them to work safely 4. Ensuring the safety of the plant process, equipment, environment and the employees This presentation will cover the definition for emergency preparedness, different classes of emergencies, alert tones and method of notifications, responsibilities of employees and the role of evacuation coordinators.
