Triple negative breast cancers (TNBC), characterized by higher incidence in young women, frequent and early relapses，a
very poor prognosis and a relative sensitivity to chemotherapy, is less favorable than that of non-TN cancers. Therefore,
more attention is being paid to unraveling the oncogenes leading to invasive and metastatic dissemination of carcinoma cells.
Metadherin (MTDH) has been implicated in tumorigenesis and micrometastasis in TNBC. We investigated the consistency of
the MTDH detection in peripheral blood and tissue and studied the relationship between MTDH and recurrence and metastasis
of TNBC patients. Expression of MTDH in peripheral blood and tissue was detected by ELISA and immunohistochemical
staining in 68 TNBC patients. We compared the consistency of the result of two methods and explored the relationship
between different MTDH expression level and relapse by follow-up. In our study, there was no significant difference between
the positive detection rates of MTDH in the peripheral blood and tissue. According to the two results, we devided them into
double positive group, double negative group and inconsistent results group. The further statistical analysis was performed.
There was no significant difference between the two detection methods (P > 0.05). Diseas free survival (DFS) in these patients
with MTDH high expression was significant lower than those with low expression group. The difference was statistically
significant (P = 0.038). We drew a conclution that MTDH in peripheral blood and tissue had significant consistency. MTDH
could be taken as a target in forecasting prognosis in TNBC patients.
