Biography :

Dr. Jin is an Associated Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Before he was recruited to SJTU, he received his Ph.D. and M.D. degree at the Fourth Military Medical University followed by famous neurobiologist Prof. Gong Ju, a CAS member. At 2006, he joined the Institute of Neurosciences at Shanghai Jiao Tong University as an Associated Professor. His lab is focused on molecular mechanism of axon regeneration and tumor epigenetics. As PI, Dr. Jin was rewarded four grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China in the last five years. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and their findings have been published in some important professional journals, such as Cell, Cancer Res, Cell Death and Differentiation, Biomaterials, Cancer Letters, Oncotarget, Molecular and cellular Neuroscience, J Comp Neurol and Anesthesiology.

Distinguished Professor Doctor Jean-François Picimbon has received his PhD in Marseille University (France) including predoc at Stony Brook University of New York (Long Island, USA) during the period of 1992-1995. Currently, he is working as Director of Agricultural Microbiology Institute in QILU University of Technology (Jinan, Shandong Province, China).

He has successfully completed his administrative and research responsibilities as Assistant/Associate Professor in Lund University, Researcher Associate at the School of Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics of the University of Göteborg, Adjunct Assistant/Associate Professor of Gembloux University (Belgium), Researcher, Lecturer and Project Leader in the frame of Erasmus-Socrates Sweden-Belgium, Sweden-Lithuania, Sweden-Czech Republic.

His research has included pheromones and olfactory proteins of insects. Based on this research and fellowship training he has received several awards and honors, such as: S.T.A. Dr. Wang received his M.D. from Tongji Medical University (China) in 1987 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Texas (UT) Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (Houston, Texas) in 1999. He completed his residency training at UT Medical School-Houston in 2003 and fellowship training in selective surgical pathology at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 2004. Dr. Wang is currently a tenured associate professor of pathology specialized in gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic pathology at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and an associate professor at UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences-Houston. Upon completion of a MD at Beijing Medical University and a PhD in Pathology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Yin pursued her clinical residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, followed by two fellowships in Hematopathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology, respectively, at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC). She is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Hematology and Molecular Genetic Pathology. Dr. Yin is an associate professor in the Department of Hematopathology at MDACC and an associate professor at UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. She is a graduate of Marmara University Medical School, Istanbul, Turkey. She is trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) between 2002-2006 at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit, MI. Following her residency, She did two fellowships. First one is oncologic surgical pathology at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. she went back to Detroit for the Cytopathology fellowship with Dr S. Qing-He Meng received his medical education and had practiced as a physician for 8 years in China. He obtained his PhD in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Helsinki, Finland, in 1999. Following postdoctoral training in Clinical Chemistry at McMaster University, he assumed the position of Clinical Chemist/Assistant Professor at Royal University Hospital, University of Saskatchewan, Canada in 2003. He then moved to the Hospital for Sick Children, the University of Toronto and took the position as a Clinical Chemist and Assistant Professor in 2006. Currently he is Associate Director of Clinical Chemistry at Royal University Hospital and Clinical Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Qing is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) and Fellows of NACB (FACB) and the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FCACB).

Clinical investigation on cardiovascular risk factors and risk markers: hyperlipidemia, hyperhomocysteinemia, hyperglycemia, and coronary artery disease; the role of cardiac biochemical markers in the diagnosis and prediction of ischemic myocardial injury. 3). Dr. El-Naggar is an internationally renowned head and neck pathologist with 20 years experience in this field. He contributed extensively to the histopathology, clinicopathologic, flow cytometric, and molecular diagnostics of head and neck tumors with over 400 peer-reviewed publications. He has made a significant contribution integrating molecular and biological markers in the diagnosis and management of head and neck cancer. One of his major contributions was in 1990 with the establishment of the first comprehensive tissue acquisition programs in the nation. Through genomic analysis, his group has, for the first time, identified a set of genes that distinguishes conventional squamous carcinoma from other phenotypic squamous carcinoma variants. He was the first to identify loss of imprinting at the IGF-2 gene in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, and the t(11:19) translocation as a sole cytogenetic alteration in mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary gland.

Jinsong Liu. MD, PhD is a professor with tenure in the Department of Pathology at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. He graduated from Shanghai First Medical College (now Fudan University), China, and came to US through China-United States Biochemistry Examination Program (CUSBEA) 1984, received a master degree from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University in 1991.  He completed postdoctoral training at Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the University of Michigan. After finishing a pathology residency and surgical pathology fellowship at New York University, He joined M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1999 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor (2004) and professor with tenure (2009).

Dr. Liu is an active diagnostic pathologist specialized in gynecologic malignancy and also directs extramurally funded research program focusing on ovarian cancer development. Dr. Chhieng obtained his medical degree from the University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong. He completed a pathology residency at Albany Medical College in Albany NY, an oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and a cytology fellowship at New York University in New York NY. After completion of his training, he worked in the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as an academic cytopathologist and surgical pathologist for 9 years. Dr. Diponkar Banerjee is the Executive Medical Director of the Provincial Health Services Authority’s Laboratories that include the BC Cancer Agency, the BC Centre for Disease Control, BC Children’s Hospital, and Riverview Hospital. He is a Clinical Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia, and the Provincial Program Leader, Cancer Pathology for the BC Cancer Agency. Dr. De received his PhD degree in Biochemistry in 1979 from the University of Maryland. He had two post doctoral trainings on basic cancer research at the Cornell University and Vanderbilt University under the supervision of Dr. Leon Heppel (Member of National Academy of Science) and Dr. Stanley Cohen (Nobel Laureate, 1986) respectively. Following a faculty position at the Children Hospital of Cincinnati he underwent a fellowship on Clinical Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in 1992. During this training his advisors were Drs Amadeo Pesce and Bradley Copeland. Mary E. Edgerton was born in Austin, Texas and was raised in the Rio Grande Valley. She received a B.S. in Physics with Highest Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. Following this, she was a Marshall Scholar to the United Kingdom where she received a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of East Anglia. She completed postdoctoral studies at the Unviersity of California at San Francisco and at the State university of New York at Stony Brook, and then worked for nine years for Exxon and then Mobil Oil Company in their research laboratories. She left the research laboratoires to attend medical school, and obtained her MD. from Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She completed her pathology residency and surgical pathology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Edgerton’s research is focused on discovery of mechanisms in cancer genesis and progression. She has worked on the development of mathematical models for computer simulations of spread of ductal carcinoma in situ, and the role of cell motility in extensive disease. She also researches methods for the analysis of gene expression array data for pathway discovery. She has published on the application of these methods to lung cancer and breast cancer profiles data. In addition to researching mechanisms, Dr. Edgerton has worked on the development of integrated information platforms for tissue acquisition, clinical annotation, and molecular profiling. She has contributed to the development of standards for data sharing and to ontologies to be used for tissue annotation.

Rossitza Lazova, MD is Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship at Yale University, Department of Dermatology, and Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pathology. Dr. Lazova is the founder and principal investigator of the Yale School of Medicine Spitzoid Biospecimen and Data Repository, which is an international biospecimen and data collection bank and an invaluable resource for researchers and collaborators within Yale as well as from other institutions. Dr. Jason Cheng’s research is aimed at understanding epigenetic and genetic controls of both normal and abnormal hematopoiesis, especially, myelopoiesis. Suzanne M. de la Monte, M.D., M.P.H. is Professor of Pathology (Neuropathology), Neurology, and Neurosurgery at the Rhode Island Hospital and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and a member or trainer/educator in the Pathobiology, Neuroscience, and Molecular Pharmacology Physiology and Biotechnology Graduate Programs at Brown University in Providence, RI. In addition to practicing clinical neuropathology, Dr. de la Monte directs basic, translational, and clinical research focusing on insulin resistance as a mediator of neurodevelopmental abnormalities following prenatal ethanol exposure, and degeneration of liver and brain due to chronic alcohol abuse, obesity, or nitrosamine exposures in adults. The research characterizes long and short-term effects of these exposures on intracellular signaling through insulin and IGF pathways, including cross-talk with others, such as Wnt, Notch, oxidative/ER stress, and lipid metabolism. In vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro experimental models are used to test hypotheses concerning mechanisms of disease and responses to treatments. Human studies are used to validate experimental results.

Dr. Keyur Patel is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Hematopathology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (UTMDACC). He obtained medical school education at Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College in India (1999) and immigrated to US to pursue doctoral research training in molecular pathogenesis at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, VA. Upon completion of PhD training in 2004, he joined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency program at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in Long Island, NY. Dr. Patel has obtained subspecialty training in Hematopathology (Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY, 2009) and Molecular Genetic Pathology (UTMDACC, 2010).

His research focus is on elucidating pathologic mechanisms in hematologic malignancies using novel molecular techniques. His current projects involve understanding the role of miRNA and novel genetic mutations in hematologic malignancies and translating this knowledge into novel molecular diagnostic approaches for personalized cancer management.

Douglas J. Gould, Ph.D., Professor of Neuroscience and Vice Chair, Department of Biomedical Sciences at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
Dr. Gould joined the OUWB faculty in July 2013 as a tenured Professor. He is Vice Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences. He joins OUWB from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, where he was a Professor and the Director of the Division of Anatomy for six years. Before that Dr. Gould was an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine for nine years. His scholarly endeavors have focused on the design, creation, implementation and evaluation of learning tools for the modern medical student; he has secured over one-million dollar to fund his medical education research efforts. Dr. Qiang Li completed his MS of Veterinary Pathology training in China Agricultural University. He obtained a PhD degree in Animal Science from the University of Georgia in 2007. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a postdoc & lab manager in the Department of Small Animal Medicine & Surgery at UGA. In 2008, He trained at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for 4 months and he developed strong interest in diagnostic virology of emerging viruses of animals. He then pursued his postdoctoral training at the Purdue University from 2010 to 2012. After passing Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) and got his DVM equivalent degree, he has been working as veterinarian for 1.5 year in the State of Indiana.
