Biography

Lisa Bourke is an Associate Professor in the Rural Health Academic Centre at The University of Melbourne. Lisa has almost twenty years’ experience as a social researcher in rural communities in the U.S. and Australia, conducting a range of social research projects at national, state and local levels. Throughout her career she has published almost 59 refereed papers and book chapters, attracted more than $1.7million of funding and participated in numerous community-based projects. Lisa’s key research interests are in the wellbeing and social connectedness of rural young people and other rural health consumers. She also has strong interests in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander wellbeing, rural community wellbeing and social research methods. Lisa uses a range of methodologies including survey research, interviews, focus groups and participatory approaches. Her current research projects address theoretical understandings of rural and remote health, quality of care in rural health services, rural young people’s wellbeing and young people’s access to rural sexual health services.
