Biography

Marilyn Winkleby, MPH, Ph.D., is Professor of Medicine, emerita at the Stanford Prevention Research Center. Since completing her doctorate at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health she has led a population health science research group at Stanford that combines epidemiologic study with intervention research to further the understanding of social determinants of health. She has received substantial funding from NIH and has published over 170 articles in scientific journals. She is known for her community partnerships, including her 20-year collaboration with the Monterey County Health Department and 15-year collaboration with Lund University in Sweden.

cancer and cardiovascular disease health behaviors, risk factors, and outcomes (smoking, physical inactivity, poor nutrition, obesity, diabetes, hypertension); health status of ethnic minority and low socioeconomic groups; community-based intervention studies
