Biography

Saman Warnakulasuriya is Professor of Oral Medicine & Experimental Pathology at King’s College London and a consultant to King’s and Guy’s Hospitals in London (UK) has lectured extensively at international conferences, particularly focused on oral cancer from the levels of basic science to the management. He is also the Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Oral Cancer (2005-2017). As the Director of WHO CC he works on an honorary capacity as an advisor to WHO member countries on cancer control and carcinogens. His recent honours include being the 2014 recipient of the International Distinguished Scientist Award for Oral Medicine and Pathology Research and an OBE from the Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom for services to Medicine & Health care. Professor Warnakulasuriya has published over 225 full research papers based on many collaborative research he conducts globally, in Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Malaysia, Guam, Spain and USA, written 15 text book chapters, and authored a text book on Oral Medicine & Pathology (2014) and is Editor-in-Chief of an international journal. His contributions to translational research are widely documented in several seminal papers, reviews, and in citations. He is an acknowledged teacher / guest speaker at many forums
