Biography

Cherie A. Motti is a Research Scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science, Australia. She earned her Ph.D. in Natural Products Chemistry at Griffith University, Australia. Cherie’s research focuses on use of spectroscopic techniques including FTMS, LC-MS and LC-MS/UV-SPE-NMR to investigate the role of chemical signalling in the establishment of symbioses, in coral recruitment and in disease and stress response. She has co-authored 39 peer reviewed original research articles and 1 book chapter. She is a member of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, the Australian and New Zealand Society for Mass Spectrometry, the Australian and New Zealand Society for Magnetic Resonance and the Principal Investigators Association. She has served as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in the areas of natural products (terrestrial, microbial and marine), NMR, MS and hyphenated method development, chemical ecology and metabolomics, as well as grant proposals for NSF (USA) and NRF (Sth. A).

Research Interest

Marine natural products chemistry (bioassay-guided isolation, structural elucidation using NMR and MS based technologies) Marine chemical ecology (chemical signalling) Metabolomics (disease and stress response).
