Dana Perkins, PhD is a Senior Science Advisor, Policy & Planning, with the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). She provides subject matter expertise, inter-agency coordination, and senior level policy advice on the scientific (biodefense and biosecurity) and public health aspects of national and international emergency preparedness and response; makes recommendations for courses of action to ASPR leadership; directs and coordinates national and international progress on issues related to biodefense and biosecurity; develops and reviews policies on biosecurity, bioweapons nonproliferation, and health security; performs expert analysis and prepares implementation plans to support US Government biodefense and biosecurity policy; represents ASPR/HHS in biodefense, biosecurity, and international health policy discussions, meetings with officials and staff from HHS, other Federal and State departments agencies, the White House, and international organizations and stakeholders; works closely with and supports the biosecurity outreach activities of the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB); serves as a liaison to the U.S. Department of State for Biological Weapons Convention and UN Security Council Resolution 1540 implementation.
Has expertise in inter-agency coordination, and senior level policy advice on the scientific (biodefense and biosecurity) and public health aspects of national and international emergency preparedness and response. Also have interest in forest ecology and public health.
