Michael Perry

Biography

 Active member of the Biodefense Laboratory’s clinical and environmental testing program and a project lead on several collaborations with the Food and Drug Administration’s Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). 

Firsthand knowledge of Biosafety Level 3 conditions and the intricacies of setting up, certifying and working inside a BSL-3 Laboratory. Extensive hands-on experience with many bacterial and viral agents within BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs. On top of routine clinical and environmental specimen testing, current responsibilities involve bacterial isolation and identification utilizing micro and molecular based testes as well as protocol development and evaluation for both research projects and diagnostic services. 

Develop and present training materials for numerous All Hazards and Bioterrorism courses. Extensively train public health labs nationwide as well as first responders including NYSP, WMD CST, and OFPC on biothreat contamination, collection, and dissemination.
