Biography

Dr. Guangyu Li has received his Ph.D. degree in Fourth Military Medical University of China during the period of July 2002 to July 2005. Currently, he is working as a research scientist in University of Texas Medical Branch. He has authored more than 90 publications. He is a member of American Society for Virology, American Society of Microbiology, and Scientific Research Society of Sigma Xi.

Research Interest

Dr. Li’s research interest are mainly aimed at elucidating the pathogenesis of viruses (Hantavirus, HBV, HCV, HIV, YFV WNV), molecular mechanisms of viral proteins to human diseases, developing animal models for human diseases, and finding novel approaches or drugs for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of viruses. He currently is engaged in research on the pathogenesis of HIV-1 infection in primary human macrophages and identification of nuclease-resistant phosphorothioate thioaptamers against HCV replication.
