Biography | ||
Filimon Peonidis was born in London in 1961. A graduate of AUTH, he holds an M. Sc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a doctorate from the University of Crete. Before joining AUTH’s philosophy faculty in 1997 he held various teaching positions in tertiary education institutions in Thessaloniki and Athens. In 1999 he was a research associate at the National Council for Radio and Television. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), La Trobe University (Melbourne), the LSE, the University of Toronto, Queen Mary, University of London and the Centre for Law and Cosmopolitan Values, University of Antwerp. His primary academic interests are in moral philosophy with emphasis on the role of emotions in moral thinking, classical utilitarianism (Bentham, Mill) and applied ethics, and in political philosophy with emphasis on democratic theory, the philosophical foundations of free expression and liberalism. Non-academic interests include photography, modern art and judging forensic debates. |
