Biography
Dr. Carl Balibar is an Investigator at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) working to discover and develop novel antibiotics against medically important bacterial pathogens. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology from Harvard University. Supported by both National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) research fellowships, he studied the biosynthesis of various biologically active natural products under the guidance of Dr. Christopher T. Walsh. He joined the Infectious Diseases department at NIBR as a postdoctoral fellow in 2007 where he studied various facets of bacterial physiology. He has authored numerous papers in the fields of enzymology and bacteriology and is a member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
