Biography
Richman Mqeke began his legal career as a Public Prosecutor in the Magistrate’s and Regional Magistrate’s Courts in Mthatha. In 1977 he moved into academia at the University of Fort Hare, was Dean of Law and later Registrar at Unitra, and has occupied a chair at Rhodes University since 1997. His research interests lie in Customary Law and Jurisprudence in which he has published a wide range of articles in most of the leading law journals in South Africa. He published two books, Basic Approaches to Problem Solving in Customary Law (1997) and Customary Law and the new Millennium (2003) and during 2005 he was the co-editor of the journal, Speculum Juris. He is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and previously served as Dean from 2001 to 2003.
