Dr. Kim is the Program Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship. He is dual trained as a neonatologist as well as a pediatric gastroenterologist. His unique training led him to study the neonatal gut with a particular focus on neonatal bowel injury and neonatal nutrition. He has helped to pioneer grey scale, color and Doppler imaging of the neonatal bowel, and currently is training our neonatal fellows with this modality. He has additional research interests in neonatal nutrition in the area of human milk research and human milk banking. Dr. Kim is also evaluating improved methods of delivering PEEP in the delivery room and accelerating neonatal intubation skills. Dr. Kim sees patients both in the outpatient setting in Gastroenterology as well as inpatient neonatology at UCSD.
