Jaime de la Garza, MD, is the executive secretary of the Science Advisory Council for the President of the Mexican Republic as well as a clinical research investigator at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerología in Tlalpan, Mexico. Dr. de la Garza is universally recognized as the pioneer of medical oncology in Mexico.He is a founding member of the Latin American and Caribbean Society of Medical Oncology (SLACOM) and the Mexican Oncology Board, for which he also served as president.In addition, Dr. de la Garza has authored over 180 articles and a book, Relato Histórico de la Oncologia Medica en Mexico, and has lectured internationally at over 1,000 events. He has been a member of ASCO for 46 years and was the first member from Latin America. He served as a member and chair of the ASCO’s International Affairs Committee and also as a member of the IDEA Working Group. ASCO honors Dr. de la Garza for his scientific accomplishments and contributions to the global oncology community.
