Biography

Peter A Selwyn is affiliated to Department of Family and Social Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Department of Epidemiology & Population Health.Einstein /Montefiore's reputation and history as an innovative leader in education, service, and research regarding the health of urban, underserved populations drew me here for my residency training. Then, starting in 1984 at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, as medical director of Montefiore’s Substance Abuse Treatment Program, I became involved in some of the earliest studies of AIDS and substance abuse (see publications). I wrote about this experience retrospectively in my 1998 book, Surviving the Fall: The Personal Journey of an AIDS Doctor.
