Professor Sofia Braga

Medical oncologist

Biography

Professor Sofia Braga has been working as a medical oncologist in Lisbon, Portugal, since 2006. She treats mainly breast and gastrointestinal cancer. She completed her PhD work at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (Oeiras, Portugal) focusing her research on centrosome clustering in breast cancer, and received her doctorate degree from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She is Assistant Professor at the Algarve Medical School since 2009, where he teaches both medical students at undergraduate level and biologists at postgraduate level. She has performed translational and epidemiological research in breast and gastrointestinal cancer, securing national funding from the National Science Foundation. Her interests include also end of life issues, an area she has been carrying out research into since 2007 with international funding.
