Wayne Shelton

PhD from the University of Tennessee in philosophy and medical ethics

Biography

Dr. Shelton received his PhD from the University of Tennessee in philosophy and medical ethics. After teaching ethics and political philosophy at the university level, he completed an MSW with a concentration in health administration and policy, and a fellowship in clinical medical ethics in the Maclean Center For Clinical Medical Ethics, University of Chicago. He has been at the Albany College since 1994. Wayne Shelton, PhD has authored or co-authored a number of papers in leading journals, and edited three books on a range of topics, including medical futility, organ transplantation and the physician-patient relationship. He was the Principal Investigator of a three-year research study in the Surgical ICU at Albany Medical Center, which focused how to improve communication with stressed families at risk for conflict. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Weill-Cornell Medical Center, Program in Medical Ethics, NYS Department of Health.
