Abstract
Biological diversity is nature?s strategic defense. The diversity of biological species is incredible on green globe. Till date, greater than 1.7 million species have been discovered and subjected to nomenclature while scientists are of the opinion of presence of millions more unknown species. Here in India round15, 000 species of higher plants occur. The State of Jammu and Kashmir is known as a heaven on earth, and a bio-mass state of India, and it has three main territories namely, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The Jammu province has a fairly rich diversity of plant life, which fulfills people?s daily needs of food, medicine, fuel, fibre, etc. Plants are also an integral part of the social fabric of the state. The flora of the Jammu district comprises 506 species, including only the angiosperms, gymnosperms and pteridophytes. The species lists of different districts are being continually updated in taxonomic publications; however, information on the flora of isolated regions of Jammu province is unavailable. The present research work focused on plant diversity of Sumb region of district Samba in Jammu province of Jammu and Kashmir state
