Fixed film reactors are one of the oldest methods of waste water treatment. In the last few years several process have been
developed which have led to a resurgence of interest. An anaerobic fluidized bed-contact reactor system has been developed
for the pretreatment of high COD and BOD waste water of pharmaceutical industries at approximately 3000 mg/L COD.
Treatment efficiencies in excess of 80% total COD reduction were possible with loading rates of up to 10-12 kg/m
production was approximately 0.1 Kg/Kg COD and BOD removed and the system demonstrated considerable process stability
