MD in Preventive Medicine, 1982, Wuhan Medical College, MPH in Health Statistics, 1987, Tongji Medical University, MPH in Population Studies, 1992, East-West Center/University of Hawaii, and PhD in Biostatistics and Epidemiology, University of Hawaii. Assistant professor at University of Southern California since 1999, Associate and Full Professor with Tenure at Wayne State University since 2004, and Tenured Professor at University of Florida since 2014.
