She is the first Western Australian Professor of Midwifery and holds a joint appointment with Curtin University and King Edward Memorial Hospital (the only tertiary maternity hospital in Western Australia). She is a registered nurse and midwife with 35 years’ experience spanning three countries (Canada, Australia and Britain).Her research has focused upon maternal and child health, specifically areas related to midwifery care such as breastfeeding, women’s pregnancy and birth experiences and health outcomes across a variety of contexts.
She is a contributed to various associations ( King Edward Memorial Hospital Scientific Advisory Subcommittee; Clinical Advisory Committee for Sexual Health Quarters; Ngala Research Reference Group;WA Breastfeeding Stakeholders Group; Associate Editor Women and Birth (official journal of the Australian College of Midwives).
She is also member of Australian College of Midwives and College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta
