Biography

Dr. Hartjes is a Clinical Associate Professor within the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Florida. She is involved with interdisciplinary education and collaboration within the Colleges of Nursing, Medicine and Pharmacy. She teaches in the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level courses in aging, palliative care, transitional care & pain.

As an active member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) she serves as: a member of the Cardiac Medicine & Surgery practice taskforce, Research Grant review panel and Scholarship Review Committee. Furthermore she provides education to faculty and staff with the End of Life Nursing Consortium (ELNEC) Course Adult and Pediatrics.

Currently she practices and consults in Palliative Care within the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units. Her research consists of various clinical outcome studies which improve patient outcomes by improving nurse/patient processes and education, with a focus on Acute and Palliative care.
