Physiology of Aging and Gerontology

Aging is a physiological change that takes place in the human body leading to senescence, the decline of biological functions and of the ability to adapt to metabolic stress. Gerontology is the study of the social, cognitive, psychological and biological aspects of aging. Gerontologists include researchers and practitioners in the fields of biology, nursing, medicine, criminology, dentistry, social work, physical and occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry, sociology, economics, political science, architecture, geography, pharmacy, public health, housing, and anthropology.
