Dr. de Vallejo is currently tenured Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He holds academic appointments at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. He obtained his graduate degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed postdoctoral training in Molecular Immunology, and in Rheumatology at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. de Vallejo is member of the American College of Rheumatology, the American Association of Immunologists, the Gerontological Society of America, and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is fellow of The Royal Society of Medicine.
Dr. de Vallejo’s research program is in the area of Immunobiology of Inflammatory Syndromes and Aging. Research activities are predominantly human-oriented, and highly collaborative. Disease-related projects focus on adult rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and juvenile dermatomyositis. Biogerontology-related projects focus on immune cell senescence, immune regulation of lifespan, and systems biology of exceptional longevity.
