Dr. Ian S. Zagon is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Neural & Behavioral Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, Pennsylvania. He holds the title of Distinguished Educator in recognition for excellence in teaching, and is the Director of the Program on Education in Human Structure which is charged with the teaching of Anatomy to medical and graduate students, and has a Master·s and Doctoral Program in the structural sciences. He has received a B.S. in English from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, an M.S. in Zoology from the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illnois, and a Ph.D. in Anatomy from the University of Colorado.   Dr Papadakos is Director of the Division of Critical Care Medicine, Professor of Anesthesiology, Surgery and Neurosurgery at the University of Rochester. He is a graduate of the Mt Sinai School of Medicine. He started his training in Surgery at the Roosevelt Hospital in NYC. He completed an Anesthesiology Residency and a fellowship in Surgical Critical at the Mt Sinai Hospital in NYC.   Dr Papadakos was one of the founders of the practice of surgical critical care in the City of Rochester. Adebola O. Adesanya is  Director of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Dr Jae-Woo Lee has received his MD in the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.  He completed an anesthesiology residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, and a pediatric anesthesia fellowship in Boston Children´s Hospital.  Currently,  he is an Associate Professor In Residence within the Department of Anesthesiology in the University of California, San Francisco since 2002.

The main focus of Dr. Lee´s research is understanding the potential therapeutic role of allogeneic bone marrow derived human mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in acute lung injury. To study this, he has developed three human models: (1) A fairly novel ex vivo perfused human lung injured by endotoxin and E. Coli pneumonia. (2 & 3) Primary cultures of both human alveolar epithelial type II cells and human lung microvascular endothelial cells grown on Transwell plates injured by an inflammatory insult.  Dr. Lee has authored multiple research articles/reviews/chapters on the role of mesenchymal stem cells in acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome.In collaboration with Dr. Michael Matthay, he is in the process of obtaining a FDA IND for a potential Phase II clinical trial of MSC in patients with ALI/ARDS.Dr. Lee´s research is currently funded by the NIH HLBI.   He has been a reviewer for grants for the National Institute of Health, American Heart Association and European Society of Critical Care Medicine.  He is a reviewer for manuscripts for multiple journals including Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, American Journal of Physiology Lung Cell Molecular Physiology and the Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society.

Marek Brzezinski is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, University of California, San Francisco. He received his MD degree and PhD degree from the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster.  He completed his anesthesia residency at University of Chicago. Subsequently, Dr. Brzezinski went on to Massachusetts General Hospital and Duke University, where he completed fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine and in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, respectively. Dr. Brzezinski has received the Distinctive Service Award from the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA). He received the Best Scientific Exhibit Award from the International Anesthesia Research Society twice. Dr. Kobeissy is an assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine; University of Florida, Gainesville, Fl. Dr. Kobeissy graduated from the American University of Beirut with a Master’s degree in Immunology. He has also a Master’s in molecular genetics with distinction from Bowling Green State University, Ohio. He obtained his PhD from the University of Florida in the area of Neuroscience. He joined the Department of psychiatry as the associate Scientific Director of the Neuroproteomics Bioanalytical Laboratory of the Center for Neuroproteomics and Biomarkers Research (CNBR), where he expanded neuroproteomics efforts into additional neurological disorders and drug abuse conditions. He served as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in the area of proteomics, psychiatry and biochemistry. He is on the editorial board of a number of proteomics and systems biology journals. He has published over than 23 Reviewed papers in the areas of proteomics and systems biology.  He is the author of 8 book chapters and the editor on one book “Psychiatric disorders: Methods and Protocols; 2011” along with three patents in the area of traumatic brain injury. His current research focuses on the area of neuroscience and psychiatry with a major interest in drug abuse neurotoxicity and traumatic brain injury neuroproteomics biomarkers. Methamphetamine and MDMA abuse cause long lasting brain injury and involves multi-level molecular processes resulting in neuronal injury and long lasting cellular dysfunction. My research is interested in understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in acute and chronic models of drug abuse paradigms especially in the area of methamphetamine abuse and other associated brain injury including traumatic and ischemic brain injury. In our work, we utilize proteomics/systems biology and targeted biochemical methods to elucidate molecular dynamics associated with brain proteome changes due to brain insult. In this area, we employ a multi-dimensional separation platform for high-end chromatographic and neuroproteomics approaches to characterize quantitative and qualitative alterations in brain injury related to neuronal cell deaths mechanisms. In addition, we are interested in the high through put analysis of “omics” data using advanced systems biology approaches that can highlight mechanisms-related to neuronal cell death dynamics as well as looking for therapeutics.

Dr. John D. Lang, Jr. is currently Chief of Anesthesiology at the VA Puget Sound Health System, University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, WA. He is Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (Adjunct). He completed training programs in Internal Medicine (1989-1992), Anesthesiology (1992-1995) and Critical Care Medicine (1995-1996) at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Prior to arriving in Seattle in 2006, he was a faculty anesthesiologist / intensivist at the University of Alabama Birmingham for 10 years.
