George Perry is dean of the College of Sciences and professor of biology at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Perry is recognized in the field of Alzheimer′s disease research particularly for his work on oxidative stress. Perry received his bachelor′s of arts degree in zoology with high honors from University of California Santa Barbara. After graduation he headed to Scripps Institution of Oceanography and obtained his PhD in marine biology under David Epel in 1979. He then received a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Cell Biology in the laboratories of Drs. Bill Brinkley and Joseph Bryan at Baylor College of Medicine where he laid the foundation for his observations of abnormalities in cell structures.
In 1982 Perry joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University where he currently holds an adjunct appointment. He is distinguished as one of the top Alzheimer′s disease researchers with over 800 publications one of the top 100 mostcited scientists in neuroscience and behavior and one of the top 25 scientists in free radical research. Perry has been cited over 24000 times and is recognized as an ISI highly cited researcher Perry is editor for numerous journals and is editor-in-chief for the Journal of Alzheimer′s Disease. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and past president of the American Association of Neuropathologists. Most recently he has been named a Foreign Correspondent Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences. Perry′s research is primarily focused on how Alzheimer disease develops and the physiological consequences of the disease at a cellular level. He is currently working to determine the sequence of events leading to damage caused by and the source of increased oxygen radicals.

Huixiao Hong received his PhD at Nanjing University China in 1990 and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Maxwell Institute at Leeds University in UK. He was an Associate Professor at Nanjing University from 1992 to 1995 where he investigated computerassisted molecular design From 1995 to1998 he worked at National Cancer Institute at National Institutes of Health as a Visiting Scientist. He discovered and designed more than 60 potent HIV integrase inhibitors and cyclooxygenase COX inhibitors. He also identified a mononucleotidebinding site in HIV integrase and elucidated the stereoselective binding mode of ibuprofen in COX1. From 1998 to 2000 he held a Research Scientist position in Sumitomo Chemical Company in Japan. He joined the information technology and scientific computing contract under ZTech at FDA’s NCTR in 2000 and served as the computational science group manager from 2002 to 2007. He became a senior scientist at the US FDA’s National Center for Toxicological Research in 2007. He published more than 80 scientific papers and served as an Executive Editor or a member of Editorial Board of 9 peerreviewed journals and as a reviewer of more than 20 peerreviewed journals in the area of pharmacogenomics proteomics bioinformatics and chemoinformatics.

Gregory S. Gorman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University. He is also the Director of Research for the Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Institute also housed in the Pharmacy School at Samford University. Dr. Gorman earned a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Mass Spectrometry from the University of Georgia, Athens Georgia. He currently serves as mentor and research advisor to 7 PharmD students and has published over 35 peer-review journal articles, 2 book chapters and 24 abstracts.

His areas of research include, impact of complementary and alternative medications (CAMs) on efficacy and pharmacokinetics of chemotherapeutic agents, bioanalytical method development, post-lead optimization of new chemotherapeutic drug candidates and drug metabolism.

Bonnie A. Avery is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi. She is also an Associate Research Professor in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences also housed at the University of Mississippi. She received her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Spectroscopy at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Her areas of interest include, remote sensing technology, novel applications of near-infrared spectroscopy, analytical method development for natural products and new pharmaceutical agents, pharmacokinetics ADME in drug discovery.

David A. Johnson, Ph.D. graduated from Hofstra University with a BA in Biology in 1974. Dr. Johnson worked as a poison information specialist at the Maine Poison Control Center from 1980 to 1990. During the same period, he earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences. Following receipt of his doctorate, Dr. Johnson became a Post‐Doctoral fellow under Dr. Bernard Lown at the Harvard School of Public
Health and later a Senior Post‐Doctoral fellow at Interneuron Pharmaceuticals in Lexington, MA working under Dr. Richard Wurtman. In 1992 he became a faculty member at the Mylan School of Pharmacy and Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pittsburgh, PA, where he currently serves as Division Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Johnson’s current research interests include the neurobiology of learning and memory and developing drugs to treat cognitive impairments associated with Parkinson’s disease.

Hugh Smyth is an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics, College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas at Austin. He is also an Adjunct Associate Scientist at the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, Albuquerque, NM and Chief Scientist of Respira Therapeutics. He has a Pharmacy and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He has been a faculty member at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and at the University of New Mexico. He was the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) New Investigator award winner for Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technologies in 2007. He also received the PhRMA Foundation New Investigator Award in pharmaceutics in 2007. He has made several invited lectures with the pharmaceutical industry, professional societies, and academic institutions. He has also served as an ad-hoc member of several NIH and NSF study sections, is a member of several editorial boards for journals and professional societies. He has approximately 40 peer reviewed publications, editor of 2 books, numerous book chapters, and 12 patent applications.

Dr. Kanwar is an immunologist and molecular biochemist with an international reputation in investigating fundamental and applied molecular aspects of cancer and chronic inflammation. He did his PhD from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. Before joining Deakin University in 2006, he was a Senior Scientist/Senior Research Fellow in the University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. During the past decade his research both academic and commercial has centered on understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms and/or finding treatments for a variety of chronic inflammatory diseases and different types of cancer. Dr Kanwar has published 55 research articles, 12 invited reviews and 5 book chapters, in highly ranked, international, peer-reviewed journals. These publications have added to the body of knowledge in the fields of immunology, cancer gene therapy, nanomedicine, cell biology and biotechnology, and have extended these disciplines. He is a key inventor on 9 international patents and has provided consultancy to 5 Biotechnology based companies. He is a member of editorial board for 7 international journals and a nominated member of more than 12 national and international societies including American Society of Nanomedicine. professor Afaf Kamal-Eldin has graduated with B.Sc. Honors Chemistry from the University of Khartoum, Sudan  1986 and obtained her M.Sc. from the same university  1990. She obtained a Ph.D. in Food Science from the Swedsih University of Agricultural Sciences 1993 and worked at the Department of Food Science, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences SLU from 1994 to 2010. Prof. Afaf has persued research in the area of bioactive compounds in food, their bioavailability and bioactivity and in the area of dietary biomarkers. She is currently working at the United Arab Emirates University in Al-Ain, UAE.
 

My research has focussed mainly on the area of Food and Health, primarily with levels and health implications of bioactive compounds in foods, antioxidant mechanisms, biomarkers of a healthy diet, and hazardous compounds in food. The research included isolation and structural characterization of unknown compounds, development of analytical methods, studies on lipid oxidation and antioxidant mechanisms, studies on the absorption, metabolism and physiological activities of bioactive compounds, and evaluation of certain food components as biomarkers of dietary intake.

Dr. Su Chen Chief Executive Officer at the Chainon Neurotrophin Biotechnolohy Inc, Texas USA got his Ph.D. in Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan of Italy, and was a post doctoral research fellow in Italian National Research Council at Padova. After his research position as Senior Research Fellow at Department of Chemistry of the University of Warwick in UK, he joined in Department of Pharmacology at Rush University School of Medicine as assistant professor, and then Quest Diagnostic Nichols Institute as depatmental associate scientific director in the US. Dr. Chen has contributed significantly in areas of chemistry, biochemistry and pharmacology of marine phospholipids， particular in development of docosahexaenoic acid DHA  containing phospholipids for treatment of neurodegenerative disorders and infertility. He already published more than 44 articles and 3 book chapters in the field of lipids. Dr. Chen now is the Secretary-General of the International Society of Dietary Supplement and Phytotherapy from 2011 to 2014.

His current interest is to investigate bioavailibility of highly abundant docosahexaenoyl phospholipids and to prepare or use the lipids as brain DHA donors for prevention and treatment of Alzheimers disease. Dr. Chen has obtained a Chinese patent and applied for three US utility patent applicatons in this particular field.

Dr. Feng is currently an Associate Professor, Assistant Director education in School of Chinese Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. Being an expert in the study of Chinese Materia Medica, Pharmacology and Toxicology of Chinese medicine. Dr. Fengs research interest is concentrate on clinical trail and experimental study for cancer, hepatic diseases, and renal diseases by using recently developed techniques in Pharmacology, molecular biology and immunology. He has published over 50 papers and books in these areas. Dr. Feng awarded Bachelor degree in Chinese Medicine from China. He warded his PhD degree from Hokkaido University School of Medicine in Japan. He finished postdoctoral research in Molecular Medicine, Hokkaido University in 1999.

Being an expert in the study of Chinese materia medica, pharmacology of Chinese medicine and Toxicology of Chinese medicine, Dr. Feng has engaged in treatment of autoimmune diseases, tumor, chronic liver and chronic kidney diseases by the methodology of integrating western medicine with Chinese traditional medicine as well as research in the formulation of TCM and effective components by using methods of pharmacology, immunology and molecular biology in recent years. Mitchell Ho is an Investigator and Head of the Antibody Therapy Unit in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the National Cancer Institute NCI. Dr. Ho received his Ph.D from the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign where he studied monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of cocaine addiction as a National Research Service Award Fellow with Mariangela Segre. He completed postdoctoral studies with Ira Pastan at the NCI working on immunotoxin therapy of cancer Research in Dr. Ho is laboratory studies mesothelin CA125/MUC16 and other cell adhesion molecules as therapeutic targets in order to develop novel antibodies and immunoconjugates to treat ovarian cancer mesothelioma and liver cancer. Dr. Haroldo A. Toque received his bachelor degree of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Universidad Catolica de Santa Maria, Arequipa, Peru. Following with his scientific purpose, he received his doctoral degree in Pharmacology from State University of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brasil. He currently serves as a Postdoctoral Fellow from American Heart Association in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Georgia Health Sciences University, Augusta, Georgia, USA. The long term of his research is to define the mechanisms by which cardiovascular diseases such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes induce vascular endothelial dysfunction. Arginase is an enzyme that competes with nitric oxide  synthase for their common substrate, Larginine, thus decreasing NO bioavailability. Growing evidence shows that elevated arginase activity is a key mediator in endothelial dysfunction and plays a critical role in cardiovascular diseases. In particular the downstream signaling of the activated RhoA or Rho kinase and Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase pathways leading to increased arginase activity/expression is been determined. Dr. Toque expects that his results will provide new information regarding the factor that activates arginase and their role in cardiovascular diseases and will help to identify possible therapeutic targets for preventing diabetes induced endothelial dysfunction.

The overall aim of my study is to better understand the mechanistic basis of vascular dysfunction, in order to identify new targets and develop new strategies to prevent endothelial and erectile dysfunction in hypertension and diabetes. We are particularly interested in determine the downstream signaling pathway by which diabetes induces endothelial dysfunction. We identify that activation of arginase is involved in diabetes and play a key role in cardiovascular diseases. We expect that understanding the mechanisms of diabetes-induced vascular dysfunction will help to identify possible therapeutic targets for preventing complications in cardiovascular system.

More than seventy four million American adults suffer from hypertension, a debilitating disease leading to end organ damage including renal failure, heart failure, and stroke. Indeed, 74% of Americans with congestive heart failure have high blood pressure. Our research, using state of the art molecular biological and neurobiological techniques combined with nanotechnology, focuses on elucidating how neuro hormonal systems, in interacting with changing environment, regulates blood pressure and cardiovascular function, and how dysfunction of molecules expressed in the neuro-hormonal systems leads to hypertension and tissue or organ damage including cardiac hypertrophy and infarction. Once key molecules are identified orcharacterized and their mechanisms of action understood, newer and more targeted drugs/interventions may be developed that may accelerate/improve clinical practice of personalized medicine.

Dr. Lu starts to hold a Professor Position with Chemical Biology, Metabolomics, and Chinese Medicines at The Chongqing University Innovative Drug Research Center Since June 2012, after he finished postdoctoral training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Washington University School of Medicine from 2009 to 2012. Dr. Lu got PhD degree in June 2009 at Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. Dr. Lu’ s interests of research focus on chemical biology, functional metabolomics, and Chinese Medicines, with emphasis on dissecting pathogenesis of metabolic diseases (liver cancers and diabetes), and infectious diseases (urinary tract infections and tuberculosis), as well as elucidating therapeutic actions of natural products, small molecule drugs and Traditional Chinese Medicines at a molecular level. During his study of biology Dan Seiler worked as a member of the nursing staff at Kiel University hospital. Post-graduate he quit this job to accept a position in the special research division 313 at Kiel University. After obtaining his Ph.D. in 1999 he worked short time as a medical sales representative. In order to place more emphasis on academic work he then became an academic assistant and project manager at different CROs where he was responsible for all aspects of phase I clinical trials according to GCP standard. He also managed HPLC and LC/MS/MS analyses according to GLP standard of both clinical and toxicological studies. Dan Seiler is currently working as a medical advisor at Helm AG, a company specialized in chemicals which also develops generic products. There he supports project teams with scientific advice and is responsible for the conduct of clinical studies. He prepares clinical and non-clinical expert statements and replies to question raised by regulatory authorities.

Dr. Yang took a position as a scientist in Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology University of Toronto in 1995. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001 and Professor in 2007. He held a lectureship 1997 to 2001, and senior lectureship 2001 to 2003 at the School of Pharmacy, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. During this period he was head of postgraduate studies and also vice-dean for research for a period of 4 years in Tabriz School of Pharmacy. In 2003 he was appointed as lecturer of pharmaceutics at King’s College London, Department of Pharmacy. Our current research is directed towards three dimensional molecular structures elucidation of selected organic compounds in the solution and/or solid state by means of chiroptical methods, circular dichroism (CD) in particular. Currently we are focusing on the structure-chiroptical properties’ relationship of classical and non-classical ß-lactam analogues, with an emphasis on carba-analogues of penicillin’s and cephalosporin’s. Special attention is devoted to the stereostructure determination of transparent molecules. For this purpose, we developed a methodology which uses various complexes with two transition metal atoms linked together by a single or multiple bond of general formula M2(OCOR)4, with M = Mo, Rh, Ru or Re. These achiral complexes act as auxiliary chromophores. After the exchange of achiral ligands of the stock complex for different types of chiral ligands, e.g., amino acids, glycols, aminols, diamines, alcohols, amines, etc., optically active complexes are formed. CD of these complexes can easily be measured and used for the correlation between signs of Cotton effects (CEs) obtained and the structure of investigated compounds.

Dr. Rahul Deshmukh, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, joined the College in 2011. Dr Deshmukh received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Mumbai in 1996, followed by a Master in Pharmacy in 1998 from the same university. He went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2003, from University of Maryland. Following postdoctoral studies in the School of Pharmacy at West Virginia University, he pursued drug discovery and development research in the pharmaceutical industry for 6 years. In industry, his research was focused on understanding and improving the Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion (ADME) properties of preclinical drug candidates. In his current role, Dr Deshmukh is responsible for developing the Pharmaceutics Course Curriculum for the Pharm D program. In addition, he is also responsible for developing the Basic Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics course curriculum.

In addition to efficacy, factors critical for development of a successful drug candidate include good drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic (DMPK) properties along with minimal toxicity. Generally, inferior DMPK properties result in poor absorption, high clearance and have been attributed to the failure of oral drugs during the clinical development. In addition, potential of drug interactions or their inadequate understanding can complicate successful drug development. The prediction of human pharmacokinetics and metabolism of drugs is critical to advance the right compounds into clinical settings. Though, use of in vitro data to extrapolate in vivo has aided the effort allowing for prediction of pharmacokinetic parameters, with our current understanding, the translation to a clinical outcome is far from accurate. I hope to build a research program that is aimed at improving our understanding and prediction of DMPK properties of drugs using in silico and in vitro tools. Specifically my research will be focused on understanding mechanisms of CYP mediated drug-drug interactions (DDIs); pharmacokinetic modeling of CYP-dependent DDIs; in vitro-in vivo correlations of drug clearance and drug interaction and the effect of CYP polymorphisms on drug clearance.

Khalid M Alkharfy is the Director of the Research Department Riyadh Techno Valley King Saud University Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy King Saud, University Coordinator of the Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics Research Laboratory, King Saud University, Drug Discovery Team Leader of Biomarkers Research Program King Saud University. He has received a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh PA 2002. He has earned his PharmD from the University of Tennessee Memphis TN 1997. Henry H Y Tong received his BPharmHons degree with a 1st Class Honors in 1997 and PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Technology in 2003 from the School of Pharmacy Chinese, University of Hong Kong. He is currently the Programme Coordinator cum Associate Professor in the School of Health Sciences Macao Polytechnic Institute. He is also the Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy. The University of Hong Kong and the Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

His research interests include preformulation studies and formulation development. To date, he has published 20 articles in SCI-listed journals, 4 articles in Chinese core journals, 2 book chapters in scientific collections and 1 Chinese patent. I gained my PhD in organic chemistry at Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003, studying structure and function of plant polysaccharides. Then I was a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University, in Dr Saul Roseman’s laboratory, the first laboratory to determine fine structure of sialic acid. In 2005, I continued my post-doctoral training followed by serving as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, at Dr. Dennis L.Kasper’s laboratory where I have published two first-authored papers with good citations,one PNAS in 2008 and another Cell hostµbe in 2010. On my return to China in 2011, I was employed as a professor and set up my own laboratory at College of Science, Northwest A&F University. In 2011, I was honored as one of Shaanxi One-Hundred Talents and in 2012, I joined in the “Interdisciplinary Cooperation Team” Program for Science and Technology Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, our research is focused on the development of pharmaceutical carbohydrate candidates for infectious or immune diseases, diabetes and cancers.

Duc Do is an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Prior to joining CSU-COP, Dr. Do was Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at LECOM School of Pharmacy. He received his B.S. from the University of Georgia and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from Mercer University. Dr. Do has been teaching in the areas of pharmaceutical dosage forms, pharmaceutical compounding, and pharmaceutical calculations. He was selected as a Teacher of the Year in 2011 and 2012. His research interests are in the areas of extended-release drug delivery systems, dosage form formulation, and microencapsulation technology. Dr. Do has published in peer-reviewed journals in these areas. He is on the editorial board for the American Journal of Medicine & Medical Sciences and the International Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Do is a copyeditor for European Journal of Chemistry and has served as a peer reviewer for several scientific journals. He is a member of several scientific and professional organizations, including the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). Dr. Do is currently a member on the AACP Joint Task Force on Faculty Mentoring. He is a delegate for the CSU-COP to AACP and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

Yong Zhang is working as research instructor in Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, USA. He is the Associate Member at American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

My research interests focus on the cancer biology and anti-cancer drug development. Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in American men. Current therapies can cause transitory remission of the malignancy; however, the lesion will quickly and invariably relapse to incurable castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPCa). My studies aim at identifying new therapeutic targets and investigating new agents for the therapy and prevention of PCa.

Dr. Lipika Chablani is currently Assistant Professor at Wegmans School of Pharmacy, St. John Fisher College, Rochester NY. She owns a B.S in Pharmacy from University of Mumbai, India. After completion of her B.S. in Pharmacy, she moved on to pursue a Master’s degree at Campbell University, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, North Carolina. During her Master’s program she worked with the Research and Development team of GlaxoSmithKline (NC) to evaluate two Process Analytical Tools (PATs) to optimize granulation process for tablet manufacturing. She has successfully published a research paper in AAPS PharmSciTech journal on this collaborative thesis work. Dr. Chablani further graduated with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2012. Her Ph.D. dissertation was focused on formulation and evaluation of particulate breast cancer vaccines. Dr. Chablani owns publications in distinguished journals for her research work at Mercer University. During her tenure at Mercer University, she also collaborated with Abbott Pharmaceuticals (IL) and Emory University (GA) for industrial and research projects. She also completed the ACPE accredited Pharmacy Teaching Certificate program at Mercer University in 2011. Dr. Chablani is involved in co-teaching three courses at Wegmans School of Pharmacy: Applied Pharmaceutics laboratory, Principles of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutics. Along with teaching, she plans to foster her research interests in the field of oncology and immunology as she continues her research against breast cancer. Dr. Chablani is also an active member of AAPS, AACP and Toastmasters International.

Owing to a strong research background of formulation development and evaluation of dosage forms and novel drug delivery systems, I have an inclination to continue my research in the field of nanotechnology targeted towards providing preventive and therapeutic solutions for cancer. Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality, I believe utilizing immunotherapy and preparing vaccines against it, which can either be used prophylactically or therapeutically will provide a potential solution. Particulate delivery systems are unique in their nature as they provide a broad range of applications based on their size and composition. My research involves usage of such particulate delivery systems as a carrier for various cancer antigens. Having dealt with formulation optimization of such particulate systems in past, my research will build on exploring various types of vaccines which can be formulated in such micro/nano particles. Another aspect of my research is the route of administration for such vaccines. The route of administration plays a vital role in induction of immune response against any disease model and to study it further to develop a patient compliant vaccine is part my research goals. My research lab at Wegmans School of Pharmacy is well equipped and is open for any collaboration in the field of oncology and immunology.

Labiba Khalil Ibrahim El-Khordagui is worked as Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics and former Vice Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt Current Research interests include development and characterization of polymer and lipid-based drug delivery systems such as microspheres, nanoparticles, nanofibers, liposomes and niosomes for different biomedical applications, nanotechnological approach to the enhancement of the performance of existing and new drug formulations, microneedles for transdermal drug delivery, bioequivalence studies for regulatory and research purposes in addition to Community Pharmacy-based research. She taught many undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Pharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics. She has published more than 70 research articles and has supervised 26 PhD and Master theses and she is an active member of multidisciplinary research national and international research teams. She is a reviewer for a number of international journals. She received the Alexandria University Awards for Scientific Research and for recognition (2008) and the Golden Medal of the Syndicate of Pharmacists of Egypt.

Gulay Buyukkoroglu has completed Ph.D at the age of 33 years from Anadolu University and postdoctoral studies from University of London The School of Pharmacy. She is head of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Anadolu University Faculty of Pharmacy.

Mohamed Maher Mehanna was born in Damanhour, Egypt. He attended formal education until the age of 16, after which He enrolled to the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science at Alexandria University, Egypt. He graduated top ten of his class in 2001 with excellent grade with honor and nominated to be demonstrator at Industrial Pharmacy Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University. He present his master thesis in mid-2008 and was accepted as Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences and promoted to assistant lecturer at the same department. His passion to advance himself in academia continues when He was admitted to Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences early 2011. Later on, He was promoted as lecturer. His research activity now began to appear in various internationally renowned journals. His works also presented in conferences in Cairo, Beirut, Aix-en-Province and recently, London. For his outstanding doctoral thesis, he has recently awarded Prof. Abdul Rahman el-Sadr Best Ph.D. Thesis in 2012 in Basic and Multidisciplinary Sciences.

I\'m interested in pharmaceutical nanotechnology and non-invasive drug delivery systems with a particular emphasis on tailoring liposomes and nano-carriers for various drugs through different routes of administration. I’m highly experienced in elaboration and appraisal procedures and techniques of nano and micro-sized pharmaceutical carriers among them; nanoliposomes, nanoparticles, nanocrystals, nanocapsules, microporous silica and micelles. Mathematical optimization and assessment of delivery systems covers various routes of administration such as oral, transdermal and ocular is considered an area of my specialty.

Dr. Remsberg received her B.S. degree in Biology from University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho in 2006. She went on to complete a combined PharmD/PhD program at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2010 and her PhD in pharmaceutical sciences under the supervision of Dr. Neal Davies in 2011. Dr. Remsberg completed her thesis on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of polyphenols. Dr. Remsberg is now completing a postdoctoral fellowship in the Clinical Pharmacology Training program at University of California, San Francisco. She is currently working in the laboratory of Dr. Leslie Benet investigating clinical drug-drug interactions that occur through inhibition of drug transporters.

After graduation from Medical School in 1999, I developed an interest in basic biomedical research and went ahead and obtained a Master of Science degree in molecular biology in 2003. I did my first post-doctoral training in cancer biology and clinical oncology between 2003 and 2004 in Peking Union Medical College and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, one of the best medical schools in China, focusing on pharmacogenomics of cancer therapy. Between 2004 and 2007, I was a post-doctoral researcher in the Medical School of University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), conducting research in oncogene expression and regulation. Between 2008 and 2010, I was the supervisor and lab manger of Cancer Pharmacology Laboratory (NCI contract lab) at UAB. I joined the faculty at TTUHSC in August 2010. With over 10 years of post-doctoral experience in the field of cancer research, particularly in the area of clinical cancer pharmacology and experimental therapeutics, my research has been continuously focused on molecular targeting for cancer therapy and prevention. My particular interests include development of experimental therapeutic agents and evaluation of their mechanism(s) of action, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics.

Dr. Ling Yang is currently a Professor of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also serving as Visiting Professor of Nankai University, Dalian Medical University, Inner Mongolia Medical College, and Liaoning Medical University. Dr. Yang graduated from Zunyi Medical College in 1983. In 1990, he, awarded by the Japanese Government Scholarship, entered Graduate School, Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University, obtained Ph. D (of Pharmaceutical Sciences) in 1996. In 2000, he was selected as one of the Outstanding Overseas Chinese Scientists (namely, One Hundred Talent Program) from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a CAS initiative to recruit competitive professional and joined DICP. Dr. Yang has published more than 110 peer-reviewed papers, two books and filed more than 40 patents to date. His research interest is mainly focused on the research of early ADME/T properties of drugs and the industrial biotechnology with regard to drug R&D.

Professor Georgios Vassilios Koukourakis has received his PhD in Democritus University of Alexandroupolis of Thrace Greece during the period of 2008. Currently, he is working as Consultant Radiation Oncologist in Saint Savvas Anticancer Institute of Athens Greece. He has successfully completed his Administrative responsibilities as Specialist in Radiation Oncology from prefecture of Athens, Greece. Giuseppe De Rosa graduated in 1997 in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Naples, University of Napoli Federico II. In the same University, he obtained a grant for research activity and in 2001 he completed a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology. In the same year, he won a grant from the University of Naples Federico II to work at the University Paris-Sud of Chatenay-Malabry (France). In France, he received a grant from Ministère des Affaires EtrangèresFrançaises to continue his research activity at the University Paris-Sud. From 2002 Dr De Rosa is assistant professor at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Naples Federico II. He is author of about 50 research papers on international journals, 3 book chapters and 7 patent applications (with a granted PCT). Dr De Rosa was Lead Guest Editor for Journal of Drug Delivery and co-Guest Editor for Journal of Amino Acids. He collaborates as referee with different international journals of pharmaceutical technology. Dr De Rosa is member of the Board of the Controlled Release Society (CRS) Italy Chapter. He was also member of the organizing committee of international meetings.

The scientific activity of Dr. De Rosa is focused on the design and development of delivery systems based on micro- and nanotechnologies

Josef Jampílek got his Ph.D. degree in Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Charles University (Czech Republic) in 2004. In 2004–2011 he worked in the R&D Division of the pharmaceutical company Zentiva (Czech Republic), where he held different expert and managerial posts. Since 2006 he also works at the Department of Chemical Drugs at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno (Czech Republic), where he became an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry (2009). He deepened his professional knowledge during research fellowship at the Medicinal Chemistry Institute of the Heidelberg University (Germany) and at multiple specialized courses. He is a member of several editorials boards of journals and professional societies. He is an author/co-author of 25 patent applications, more than 70 scientific publications, 150 conference contributions, 6 university textbooks, 10 chapters in monographs and co-editor of 1 book.

 Wang Qing-Shan is working  at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). He recieved his M.D from Shandong University, China.

Understanding the role of glia in inflammation-mediated neurodegeneration; screening and modifying anti-inflammatory compounds for developing novel disease-modifying strategy for neurodegenerative disorders.

Li-Quan Wang is a Manager of Drug Metabolism and Biotransformation at XenoBiotic Laboratories, Inc. He manages and directs drug metabolism and bioanalysis of various types of molecules from drug discovery to development. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 2000, co-educated by Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Institute of Natural Medicine, Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Japan. In 2001, he went to Dr. Margaret O. James’s lab in College of Pharmacy, University of Florida as a Post-doctorate associate to conduct phase I especially phase II drug metabolism research. In 2005, he joined FMC Corporation as a Senior Research Scientist. In 2008, he joined XenoBiotic Laboratories, Inc as a Senior Research Scientist, Group Leader in 2010, and Manager in 2012 in Drug Metabolism and Biotransformation Group. He has published over 40 articles/reviews in peer-reviewed journals. His won the Most Cited Review Article Award for his review article “Mammalian Phytoestrogens: Enterodiol and Enterolactone” in Journal of Chromatography B. He was the winner in the postdoctoral fellow division of the Best Poster Competition in the 18th Annual Research Showcase and Awards Recognition Day in College of Pharmacy, University of Florida. He was the Recipient of Travel Grant Award of 13th North American ISSX/20th JSSX meeting in Maui, Hawaii. His current research is primarily focused on various drug discovery and development projects, e.g. in vitro/in vivo drug metabolism, drug-drug interactions, metabolite profiling, metabolite identification by MS and NMR, metabolite quantitation and semi-quantitation. He is a member of ISSX and ASMS.

Dr Ashwell R. Ndhlala received his BSc Honours degree in Biochemistry from the University of Zimbabwe in 2001, Harare in Zimbabwe first doctorate (DPhil in Biochemistry) from the same institute in 2008 and second doctorate (PhD in Ethnopharmacology) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg in South Africa in 2010. He currently serves as a Researcher at The Research Centre for Plant Growth and Development in KwaZulu-Natal South Africa. His research interests are mainly focused on African Traditional Medicine. The long term goal of his research is to document the safety, efficacy and sustainable utilization of African Traditional Medicine. With vast experience in toxicology, bio analysis, microbiology, conservation methods and indigenous knowledge systems, he has contributed immensely to the knowledge of ethnopharmacology of African Traditional Medicine. He serves as a member of the Editorial Board for the South African Journal of Botany and performs peer reviews for a number of rated journals.

Natasa Skalko-Basnet was born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1963. She received her BPharm and MPharm from University of Zagreb, Croatia and her PhD from The School of Pharmacy, University of London, UK, in 1995. She was awarded Humboldt Fellowship and was postdoctoral fellow at University of Freiburg, Germany. Upon habilitation at University of Zagreb, Croatia, she moved to work at Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Japan. She was one of the founding members and the Program Director and professor at The School of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, Pokhara University, Nepal. From 2008 she joint University of Tromsø, Norway where is currently employed as a professor and Head of the Drug Transport and Delivery Research Group, Department of Pharmacy. She is married and has one son.

Main research interests can be summarized as aiming at improved drug therapy by means of novel drug delivery systems. Particular focus is given to phospholipid-based delivery systems for local topical drug delivery to the skin and vagina. The fate of liposome-based delivery systems upon their administration to various sites of the body, with emphasis on the vesicle characteristics such as the size, surface charge, surface modification, and rigidity and their influence on drug’s bioavailability is one of the main interests. Recently, I become interested in the application of liposomes for improved fish health.

Professor Viness Pillay has received his PhD in Temple University, United States of America during the period of 1996-2000.Currently,he is working as professor in Witwatersrand University. He is an expert reviewer of grant and rating applications. He currently serves on the Reviewer, Editorial Advisory Board and Lead Guest Editor of international scientific journals and Books.

Manoj Karwa has received his Doctorate in Management from Institute of Business Management and Engineering from 2009-2011.Currently,he is working as Head – Project Planning and Management in Auriga Research Limited.He is a member of Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) and Indian Society of Clinical Research (ISCR). He has Honored as best employee for significant contribution to the NO-NSAIDs project at Nicholas Piramal Research Centre

Effect of b-adrenergic agents on the development of tolerance to Morphine in mice.

Dr. Zhang obtained his MD with highest honor in 1983 and PhD in Toxicology and Occupational Epidemiology in 1988, from Shanghai Medical University (now Fudan University Shanghai Medical College), China. He completed his post-doctoral clinical pharmacology fellowship at University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB) between 1989 and 1992. He joined UAB faculty in 1992 and moved through the ranks to Tenured Professor and Cancer Pharmacology Laboratory Director. In July 2010, he joined TTUHSC School of Pharmacy as Tenured Professor and Chair. With over 20 years of experience in the field of translational biomedical research, particularly in the area of translational medicine, cancer therapy and prevention, clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, pharmaceutical and toxicological research, Dr. Zhang’s research has been continuously funded by NIH, DoD, and other agencies. He has been invited to give more than 110 presentations for prestigious universities, institutions, and organizations. He has published more than 170 papers, 2 books, more than 45 invited reviews/book chapters, and more than 150 meeting abstracts. Dr. Zhang’s publications have been cited more than 6300 times. Dr. Zhang is a certified toxicologist by the American Board of Toxicology (D.A.B.T.) and has served on Board of Directors of ABT since 2009. He has been an FDA advisory committee member since 2003 and served as a panel member for NIH, DoD, CDC, FDA, and NIOSH and other international panels, including China’s National Nature Science Foundation (NSFC). For his outstanding contributions in sciences, Dr. Zhang was elected as a Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2009, a high national honor.

Dr. Shu-Yun Zhang is a member of Human Metabolism Group at National Institutes of Sciences/National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences from 2009. She received her Ph.D. in Medical Science from Nagoya University, Japan. She is currently investigating regulation of cytochrome P4502C enzymes by microRNAs.

Environmental Toxicology, Regulation of Cytochrome P450 enzymes

Dr. Tsume has obtained the B.S. and M.A. in pharmacy and pharmaceutics at Setaunan University and obtained the Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. He has been been educated in the pharmacokinetics and the evaluation of oral drug absorption and has been trained in pharmaceuticals to be a registered pharmacist. Dr. Tsume has been serving at a scientist and the Core manager at the University of Michigan and overseeing the pharmacokinetics projects of test drugs and the evaluation of in vivo/in vitro drug dissolution/absorption from GI including in silico technology.

Dr. Tsume research interest and expertise are pharmacokinetics, oral drug absorption, and drug delivery, especially biopharmaceutical aspect of drug absorption from GI tract. Dr. Tsume significant contributions is to develop in vitro biopredictive dissolution system for better ivivc and the assessment of in vivo dissolution. The other is the prodrug approach to develop oral drugs. This approach could improve the quality of life for any patients, who have to visit a hospital to get the treatment, iv injection/infusion. Dr. Tsume current research interest is the development of oral prodrug delivery with targeted activation in specific tissues.

Yonghua Wang is a full professor major in Systems Pharmacology at Northwest A &F University, China and is a visiting professor at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Prof. Wang has devoted his research to systems pharmacology, particularly developing methods to understand mechanisms of action for herbs and plant-origin drug discovery by systems biology methods. He is the author or coauthor of 81 scientific papers, book chapters and 17 abstracts. He has applied for 9 patents for new drugs and 3 of them have been authorized. He serves as the Associate Editor for the international journal ‘microRNA.
