Scot C. Remick
FACP Professor of Medicine
Director, Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center
Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center
West Virginia University
Morgantown, USA

 Biography :

Dr. Remick has been principal investigator or co-investigator on tens of millions of dollars in externally funded cancer and AIDS research at Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cleveland. He is a graduate of New York Medical College, with residency training at Johns Hopkins and fellowship training at the University of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center.

Biography
 Research Interest :

Dr. Remick’s research focuses on early phase cancer therapeutics and AIDS malignancies. He has conducted and led numerous trials (from Phase I to Phase III studies) of antiretroviral agents and new cancer drugs, having received continuous NIH-funding for the past 15 years for the cooperative and collaborative development of a variety of these compounds and strategies. He has developed and continues to pursue the development of new anticancer agents in close collaboration with the NCI and other partners for both solid tumors and AIDS neoplasms. Recently completed phase I and II trials under his direction have included rebeccamycin analog, combretastatin A-4 phosphate the first vascular disrupting agent to enter the clinic and bryostatin.

 Biography :

Yi-Xian Qin is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Stony Brook University. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (specializing in Biomechanics) from The State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1997. After a short postdoctoral training in Musculoskeletal Tissue Growth and Regeneration at Orthopaedics of Stony Brook, he became one of the founding faculty members in the Department of BME at Stony Brook University in 1998. His primary scholarly contributions to the field gravitate towards improving the understanding of the physical milieu of the skeletal system under physical regulations, particularly how fluid flow serves as regulatory signals to the bone cell functions and tissue remodeling. His research interest is also focused on the diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound for characterization the physical properties of bone and guided treatment for bone diseases. These works may potentially impact to the health and well-being of the (ever) aging population, as it pertains directly to understanding the etiology of osteoporosis, and may well identify novel means of suppressing bone loss, and may provide a unique clinical assay to accelerate healing and regeneration via non-pharmaceutical approaches. He has been an active member for more than 15 national and international scientific societies, and is serving as an editorial member of several reputed journals like BMC Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research. He served as organizer for several national and international conferences, i.e., Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Engineering track chair for BMES, the International Bone Fluid Flow Workshop, and the International Conference on Osteoporosis and Bone Research. Stat3 and its downstream genes serve as biomarkers for lung adenocarcinoma and COPD diagnosis and prognosis in humans. Biography
 Research Interest :

My lab research focuses on translational pharmacogenomic research with particular interest in the pharmacogenomics of anticancer agents. By systematically evaluating the human genomes and their relationships to drug response and toxicity, our goal is to develop clinically useful models that predict risks for adverse drug reactions and non-response prior to administration of chemotherapy.  We utilize cell lines (derived from healthy and disease individuals as well as commercially available cancer cell lines), and clinical samples to discover and functional characterize genetic variations, gene and microRNA (miRNA) expression for their role in chemotherapeutic sensitivity.

Biography
 Research Interest :

As a cancer research scientist, I’m interested in and focusing on the function of microRNAs (miRNAs) and protein coding genes in acute leukemia and stem cell development. I’m currently doing research on several miRNAs and genes that play an important role in acute myeloid leukemia with different translocations such ast(8;21) orMLL associated leukemia. In particular, I am studying the function of the miRNAs which are highly or lowly expressed in leukemia, and their critical target genes in the development of leukemia, and am also investigating the relevant molecular mechanisms. My goal is to develop a deep understanding of cancer biology, especially the mechanisms leading to leukemogenesis, and to find the potential target for the clinical treatment and bring that knowledge to the benefit of patients.
