Biography
 Research Interest :

His research interest is in the fields of endocrinology and metabolism for bone and calcium and osteoporosis prevention by nutritional factors. Currently, he has an interesting for messenchymal stem cell and adipogenesis and obesity and its relation to nutritional factors, diabetic osteoporosis, and intracellular signaling mechanism. He discovered two novel proteins and genes; the named regucalcin, a regulatory protein in intracellular signaling system, and RGPR-p117, a transcription factor. He generated regucalcin transgenic rats, which are known to induce osteoporosis and hyperlipidemia.

Dr. Guoxun Chen obtained his BS and MS degrees in the Department of Virology and Molecular Biology at Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. He completed his Ph.D degree in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 2001. After that, Dr. Chen entered the lab of Nobel Laureates, Drs. Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein in the Department of Molecular Genetics for the postdoctoral training. In 2006, he left Dallas and joined the faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Dr. Chen has been conducting research projects related to obesity and diabetes since 1995. Since the establishment of his independent research lab in 2006, Dr. Chen has focused on the roles of vitamin A in the development of metabolic diseases, and the regulation of glucose and lipid homeostasis.

Biography
 Research Interest :

Dr. Guoxun Chen’s long-term research interest is to understand the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of metabolic changes associated with metabolic diseases, such as obesity and type II diabetes. Dr. Chen’s research has been focused on how endogenous lipids regulate the expression of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. Since Dr. Chen established his independent research laboratory in the Department of Nutrition at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2006, he have found that vitamin A, an essential micronutrient for human health and development, plays a role in glucose and lipid metabolism. This has led him to investigate the roles of vitamin A in the development of metabolism diseases, such as obesity and type II diabetes.
