Clare Lewis PT, PsyD, FAAOMPT, MTC is a professor at California State University where she has worked in the physical therapy program for 16 years primarily teaching the musculoskeletal and psychology courses. My main research interests focus on the effect of nutrition on physiological function and respiratory muscle function in health and disease. My research group has demonstrated that dietary modification has potential to reduce the severity of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB). For example, we have recently demonstrated that a low sodium diet reduces post-exercise induced airway narrowing and moderates airway inflammation in asthmatic subjects with EIB. In addition, we have also shown recently that a three-week fish oil diet, rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, has a protective effect in suppressing EIB in asthmatic subjects and elite athletes. This work has resulted in numerous grant applications currently under consideration at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Research related to respiratory muscle function in my laboratory is currently directed at assessing respiratory muscle and pulmonary function characteristics of elite swimmers. We have previoulsy shown that inspiratory muscle training improves inspiratory muscle strength and endurance and exercise capacity in recreational runners.

My disciplined line of research over two decades was in pain management and in the last decade expanded to include assessment of the efficacy safety and cost effectiveness of selected complementary therapies with particular emphasis on the role of individual differences in the efficacy of selected therapies. I am Director of the Center for the Study of Complementary and Alternative Therapies at the University of Virginia. My research has included large studies in the CAM program area of bioelectromagnetics My research commitment is to fostering the nursing perspective in future efforts that test the effectiveness cost and safety of complementary therapies in reducing pain and related symptoms and enhancing patient comfort. I am Director of the NIH funded Center for the Study of Complementary and Alternative Therapies at the University of Virginia. Dalia Zwick is a physical therapist with forty two years experience. She earned her professional physical therapy degree in Israel, B.Sc from SUNY Buffalo, Masters from LIU and a PhD from New York University. She works with people with physical disabilities in New York City where she integrates rehabilitation and yoga principles. She serves as a master clinician for PT students. She practices Iyengar Yoga and her interest in this style of yoga is both experiential as well as academic. She visited Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India a few times. She serves as a chairperson at an advisory committee to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was instrumental in getting a recent, federally funded grant for the society. Her professional focus is working with people with diverse physical disabilities such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and stroke.

Her research interests are on topics of how yoga tenets can enhance treatment of people with disabilities that have impaired functions. She is interested in research topics such as impairment in pulmonary function, foot and ankle biomechanics, balance and walking and how yoga can reduce abnormal tone influence such as spasms and spasticity on movement.

Erik J. Groessl is the Assistant Professor of University of California-San Diego. He got his B.S degree in 1987 from University of Wisconsin. Alyson Ross is a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and an Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) Pre-doctoral Fellow with the Nursing Research and Translational Science of the Nursing Department at the NIH Clinical Center. Medicine. Specifically, I am interested in the evaluation of the clinical effectiveness and basic psychophysiological mechanisms underlying the practice of yoga and meditation techniques. These behavioral techniques include specific manipulations of respiratory frequency and tidal volume, maintenance of body postures and stretching exercises, and meditation, which involves relaxed control of attention in a manner that precludes ruminative thought. Ongoing studies include the evaluation of yoga for treatment of PTSD and mental health benefits of yoga in public schools.I am currently conducting research studies on the treatment of primary insomnia with yoga and meditation techniques which involve both subjective and objective polysomnographic evaluation of sleep quality in randomized controlled trials as well as concurrent evaluation of psychophysiological measures including cortisol, catecholamines, melatonin and heart rate variability. I am also interested in the potential effectiveness of these techniques in insomnia secondary to other conditions such as depression, anxiety and fibromyalgia and in other sleep disorders.

Stefan Brocke, M.D., Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Immunology and a member of the Center of Pharmacology at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He received his medical degree from the Free University Berlin, Germany and went on to earn a doctoral degree in Immunology there. Dr. Brocke did his postdoctoral studies in Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. He was a Visiting Scientist at the National Institutes of Health and the Weizmann Institute of Science and took his first faculty position at Hadassah Medical School.

The overall goal of his research is to characterize molecules that regulate cAMP signaling in order develop new therapies for immunologic disorders.

Dr. Bryan Coleman Salgado is a physical therapist, educatorand a 35 year yoga practitioner. He serves as full time faculty and Director of Clinical Education in the Physical Therapy program at CSU Sacramento. As a physical therapist of 20 years he has specialized in rehabilitation of neurologically impaired persons, and in wound management.He has presented research on the effects of yoga on persons with chronic neurologic diseases. Yoga asanas, Kriya yoga meditation and Ayurvedic lifestyle practices are an integral part of his life.As a young adult, his yoga practice led him to the physical therapy profession. Dr. Coleman Salgado has degrees from Stanford, Duke and the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. Dr. Kuei-Min Chen is a professor and Division Chief of the Research Development at the College of Nursing, Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Nursing from School of Nursing, University of Minnesota, USA in 2000. Her program of research has been focusing on using various complementary/alternative therapies e.g., tai chi, yoga, and elastic band to promote health of the older populations. She has formed a research team called Seniors Health Promotion since 2000. Up-to-date, the research team has developed three senior tailored exercise programs: 1. the Simplified Tai Chi Exercise Program STEP, 2. the Silver Yoga SY program, and 3. the Senior Elastic Band SEB exercise program. These programs have been tested with various older populations.

I have been focusing on using various complementary/alternative therapies e.g., tai chi, yoga, and elastic band to promote health of the older populations. David Sibbritt has been instrumental in furthering knowledge in public health,in the specific area of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). He is a prolific researcher on this topic and in 2008, he was a founding member and Deputy Director of NORPHCAM (Network of Research in Public Health CAM), a collaborative network of over 100 Australian and international researchers and CAM practitioners established to encourage public health and health services research focusing upon CAM. As an indicator of his international standing in the field of CAM, A/Prof. Sibbritt is currently on the editorial board of several international CAM journals. In addition to his expertise in CAM research, A/Prof. Sibbritt is a highly experienced biostatistician. He regularly conducts capacity building workshops and presents seminars on biostatistical methods around the world. His expertise in longitudinal data analyses has led to several national and international collaborations on cohort studies.

I graduated as a physiotherapist from Guys Hospital (London) and worked as a clinician for a number of years, with a particular interest in chronic and persistent pain management. I undertook my PhD at the Otago University (New Zealand) researching the relationships between activity and persistent and chronic LBP. I currently work as a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the University of Otago. My research areas have focused on how to better understand the complexities of both acute and chronic pain management and in particular the role of physical activity and specific exercise in pain management.

Dr. Gordana Petrovic Oggiano was born 25.02.1967. in Pristina, School of Medicine, University of Pristina she enrolled in the school year 1985-86. and ended up in 1992nd with the average grade of 8.20. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, recived a first job at the 1994th year at the Clinical Centre in Pristina, as a clinical physician of food hygiene. The academic title of Master of Medical Sciences, acquired after completing graduate studies at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, and thesis defense entitled "Food fats of different origin as a risk factor in the occurrence of cerebrovascular insult" on 30.12.1998. She specialized in hygiene ended 03.11.1997. on Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, defending and finishing specialist paper titled, "Sanitary and hygienic characteristics of the facility to feed the patients of the Clinical Center of Serbia with regard to quality of diet."

Dr. Chung received his PhD degree in Medical Sciences from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also earned his BSc and MPhil degree in Statistics at the same university. Prior to joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) as a Scientific Officer, he was an Instructor in the Division of Social Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) teaching courses related to quantitative analysis. Dr. Shamay Ng is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong. She is also the Visiting Professor at the Health and Nursing Department, The Wuhan Polytechnic University in China. Shamay’s research interest is on neurorehabilitation, particularly on stroke rehabilitation. Her current focus of researches includes measurement tools of functional mobility in patients with neurological disorders, and evidence-based intervention in people with stroke. Her research findings have been published in journals such as Stroke, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine etc. She has received several research grants in conducting randomised controlled trials on efficacy of home-based and community-based stroke rehabilitation programmes, and teaching grants in developing innovative teaching methodology in physiotherapy education.

C.M. Tsui is an occupational therapist by training. He is specialized in psychiatric rehabilitation. He has been serving as advisor or consultant in his clinical expertise in various non-government organizations, hospitals and universities. The most recent appointment is the psychiatric rehabilitation expert in an affiliated hospital of a renowned university in Beijing, the capital of The People’s Republic of China. His research interests focus on the interventions for people with mental illness such as therapeutic modalities, vocational rehabilitation, perceived rehabilitation needs, social inclusion, and mental health policy etc. The research output has been disseminated in a number of international journals and conferences. In addition to the clinical practice and research endeavor, he is also an experienced educator in healthcare disciplines like occupational therapy, medicine and nursing in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Professor Hector W.H. Tsang is the Associate Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Science and the in-charge of the Neuropsychiatric Rehabilitation Laboratory at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. As atrained occupational therapist, he has extensive experiences in working with individuals with various psychiatric disabilities. With his research interests focused on mental health, stress management, and the application of complementary and alternative approaches to relieve emotional disturbances such as yoga and Qigong, Prof. Tsang has obtained a number of research grants from various sources which includes the 2 recently obtained major grants, which examine the effects of various alternative and complementary approaches to help teachers relieve workplace stress, from Quality Education Fund of the Hong Kong SAR.While having published over 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals,Prof. Tsang is currently serving as reviewer of a number of prestigious journals.

Shirley Telles completed M.B.B.S. from Goa Medical College Goa and subsequently M.Phil. in Neurophysiology and Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences NIMHANS, Bangalore, India. She is the Director of research at Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar, India and the Head, Indian Council of Medical Research Center for Advanced Research in Yoga and Neurophysiology. She has 106 research publications related to yoga research in journals indexed in international bibliographic databases e.g., Medline, 12 chapters in books and 3 published books.

She received an award from The John Templeton Foundation U.S.A. for an essay on Creative research ideas in neurobiology and a Fulbright Fellowship to study Functional magnetic resonance imaging in meditators at the Dept. of Radiology, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, U.S.A.

Vikas Dhikav was born in Bhiwani, Haryana, India on August 21st 1974. He did his undergraduate medical training from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, Haryana, India and postgraduate training in pharmacology and therapeutics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences , New Delhi India . His primary research interests are Alzheimer’s disease and yoga and sexuality. He has to his credit 20 International and 50 National papers. He has also authored one dozen books in pharmacology and therapeutics and also on various aspects of sexuality.
He has served as a Research Associate in leading Institutes of India including AIIMS and postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and research, New Delhi. He has an extensive experience of teaching pharmacology to Medical Students for last 10 years. He has been invited as a Visiting Faculty by various Russian, Chinese and Nepalese universities. His name features in World’s leading Whos  Who and was nominated by British Medical Journal group to promote Academic Medicine in 2004. In 2010, he was nominated as one of the outstanding intellectuals of the 21st contrary by International Biographical Institute, Cambridge, UK.
