Biography

Emilio Gutierrez received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Psychology at the University of Salamanca (1979) with Honors. He was awarded a PHD with Distinction in Clinical Psychology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) in 1986. Since 1982 he has been associated with the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology, at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where he currently is Professor of Clinical Psychology. He is Founder and Director of the Venres Clinicos Unit at the USC since 1984, the first University Psychology Clinic in Spain. His research over the last ten years has been focused on developing a new treatment for Anorexia Nervosa in collaboration with colleagues from different universities around the world. In 2005 he received the Humanitas Prize for his work as head of the Venres Clinicos Unit at the USC.
