Biography

Dr. Ismail Shihabuddeen Thalangara did Masters in Psych. Rehab with first rank from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health sciences, Bangalore and completed his PhD in Psychiatric Rehabilitation from Yenepoya University, Mangalore. He also did his fellowship in neurological rehabilitation. Currently working as Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Psychiatry and he is the In-Charge Head of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Unit / services in the Yenepoya University. He is one of the pioneers who specialized in Rehab Psychiatry in India and put in more than 12 years of services. He has published around 30 papers in his specialty and was speaker for National-International Conferences. He has received 4 awards for his researches, innovative skills, leadership and for his services from India. He wanted up-scale the existing psych. rehab services in low income countries and working towards global acceptance of rehab Psychiatry as mandatory paper in Mental Health curriculum. He also writes poetry, short stories, one act plays to create public awareness and to deal with stigma related to mental illness and rehabilitation.
