Dr. Parna Bhattacharya received her M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Ph.D. in Immunology and multiple years of experience in Research. Currently, she is a post-doctoral fellow at Food and Drug Administration, USA (4.3 years). She serves as a subject matter expert/supervisor in projects associated with Infectious diseases (Leishmania) and Cancer, focusing mostly on pre-clinical studies on Vaccine and Drug efficacy.

Research Interest

Dr. Parna Bhattacharya focus of research includes understanding the host-pathogen interaction during parasitic disease, exploring immune response during pathogenesis, and development of anti-Leishmania vaccine candidates. Specifically, she has experience in elucidating the mechanism of establishment of pathogenesis by the intracellular protozoan parasite Leishmania donovani, the causative agent of visceral Leishmaniasis (VL). Parallel to this, she is also extending her research on the interplay of host immune responses, immunomodulation and the development of therapeutic targets against VL and Tuberculosis. Since mononuclear phagocytes are target cells for a diverse array of microbes, in spite of possessing potent antimicrobial machinery, hence she explore the different therapeutic approaches aiming at the activation of macrophages to dampen the pathogenic effects of the infection and also investigated the signaling aspect in Tumor Associated Macrophages (TAM). Additionally, her research focuses on the elucidation of the role of live attenuated parasite vaccine against Leishmaniasis. She has characterized macrophage phenotype (M1/M2) in live attenuated Leishmania vaccine induced immunity. She has also investigated the efficacy of live attenuated Leishmania vaccine in aged animal model.
