Photonic crystals are mainly found in the mode of structural coloration in nature. These are optical nanostructures which influence the motion of electrons in the same way as ionic lattices alters electrons in solids. Photonic crystals are made up of periodic dielectric, metallo-dielectric and or even superconductor microstructures or nanostructures which alter electromagnetic wave propagation by defining allowed and forbidden electronic energy bands. Photonic crystal shows frequently duplicating sections of high and low dielectric constant. Depending on the wavelength, photons either transmits through the crystals or not - giving rise to different optical phenomenon like inhibition of spontaneous emission, high-reflecting omni-directional mirrors, and low-loss-wave guiding. It is involved in different commercial products like photonic crystal fibers, optical computers etc.
