Thermodynamics is the branch of science which includes classical thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, chemical thermodynamics and treatment of equilibrium. It is related to heat and temperature and their concern to energy and work. Thermodynamics is based on three laws which are - first law - The internal energy of an isolated system is constant – it tells about conservation of energy which states that energy can neither be created nor be destroyed but can only be transformed from one form to the other, second law - Heat cannot spontaneously flow from a colder location to a hotter location.- second law is an expression of universal principle of decay which states that differences in temperature, pressure and chemical potential is likely to be even out in an isolated system from outside world and the third law - As a system approaches absolute zero, all processes cease and the entropy of the system approaches a minimum value – gives an absolute reference point for the determination of entropy. Thermodynamics is applied in many fields like Atmospheric thermodynamics, Biological thermodynamics, Black hole thermodynamics, Industrial ecology (re: Exergy), Maximum entropy thermodynamics, Philosophy of thermal and statistical physics, Psychrometrics, Quantum thermodynamics, Statistical thermodynamics and Thermoeconomics.
