Small and large exporting companies need a reliable, practical and cost-effective mechanism to protect their brands in markets of interest.
The Madrid System is a centralized solution for trademark owners to obtain and preserve the protection of their trademarks in multiple markets. The Madrid System is a centralized presentation and management procedure. Through this system you can submit an international application in one language (English, French or Spanish) and pay a single fee in Swiss francs to obtain an international registration in multiple territories. As its business strategy evolves, the Madrid System can be used to extend protection to new markets. It also allows you to manage and maintain your brand portfolio through a centralized system. The activity of the Foundation is based on the principles of independence of the bodies involved in the evaluation, objectivity and publicity of the methods and procedures used impartiality of the management bodies and participation of universities in quality improvement programs.
The Foundation is committed to quality and to the improvement of Higher Education as a way to contribute to the progress of our region and also wants to be a useful tool for universities and citizens in general. The Madrid System offers the possibility to protect its trademark simultaneously in the 114 territories of its 98 members, including the European Union (EU) and the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI), most of the developed countries, and many developing countries with economies in transition. These countries account for more than 80% of world trade, and more members join each year. The submission of a single international application is equivalent to filing a series of national applications, saving time and money. When using the Madrid System it is not necessary to pay for translation services in several languages or to waste time in the administrative procedures of different offices.
